A picture of the war
The soldiers sit there smoking
after the massacre they’ve lead.
Whilst all around them are the bodies,
of the enemy dead.
The picture seems out of place,
their faces do not seem distressed.
Some are eating from cans with pocket knifes
in their green brown army dress.
There are arms and legs scattered all around them,
but they do not seem to mind.
Some even seem to be playing a game, as if…
things were fine!
It looks like hell on earth,
but you would not know it from the looks on their face.
As they sit there amongst
the bloodied human waste.
A slaughter has occurred, /
all in the name of ‘war.’
I wonder what they will be doing tomorrow
and if there will be more?
From the looks of this picture they just don’t seem to be fussed
as they sit there amongst the human carnage.
All in a days work of war it seems
as human dignity is so profoundly tarnished.
And suddenly I notice myself reflecting on my own ‘self,’
as I try to make sense, of ‘war’
and of ‘human suffering’
and this picture of 'pretense.'
