If I was a bum

If I was a bum

and I was Albert Einstein lying in the gutter,

would you come up to me and utter,

“hey buddy … are you alright?!”

Or if I was Jesus

who had tripped and fallen down;

would you pass me in the street and even

look at me and frown!

And if I was your brother,

whom you happened not recognize

lying in the park blind drunk,

would you spare me a bit of your time?

And if you say you would;

then why is it that I lie here all alone.

Why is it that you just walk on by?

Is it because it is just ‘I’ …

‘a bum.’
