That sister of the clerical
When I was young ,with so much life to come,
I had a teacher who was a ‘Dominican nun.’
To Jesus she was dedicated and ordained,
Sister Mary Joseph’s was her name,
I wonder what’s become of her now
that sister of the clerical?
We children would hand her flowers
just to see her smile for hours and hours.
And at play time we would sing her songs
as we ran and danced and skipped along.
And I do wonder what’s become of her now
that sister of the clerical?
She would smile whenever she came my way
saying, “I hope you have a very nice day.”
Sister Mary had a smile for us all,
I thought then it was because of her ‘godly call.’
And now I wonder what’s become of her now
that sister of the clerical?
One day I remembered her with a tear in her eye,
but we children back then did not know why.
We drew her pictures and showed her our art,
trying to comfort that sister with big heart.
And I wonder;
what’s become of her now
that sister of the clerical?
I wonder if I’ll ever get to meet,
that sister whom I longed to greet?
For as I go through life I reflect from time to time and wonder
what she must be doing now,
that sister of the clerical?
