Snake Woman

I see a woman in the desert

who claims she charms the snakes.

She says she has within her,

the rivers and the lakes.

She has within her the animals of the land.

She has within her /  the red barren sand.

She has within her the soul of Australia,

Although  she is /  not born here.

I see a woman who charms the snakes.

She is not dreaming, she is fully awake.
